Our very own West Senior Jayzen Smith was recognized as SDP Senior of the Month for February 2026. Jayzen is the very definition of perseverance, humility, and purpose in action. A senior in the Computer Systems Networking CTE program at West Philadelphia High School, Jayzen has not only risen above significant personal challenges—he has turned every opportunity placed before him into a stepping stone toward excellence. Congratulations, Jayzen, on being named Senior of the Month. Your future is bright, and we are cheering you on every step of the way.
With the continued government shutdown, programs such as SNAP and LIHEAP will be affected. Many of our students, their families, and our WPHS staff members depend on these programs to sustain their livelihood and overall well-being.
We have been working with local community partners to ensure that our families will have access to food, clothing, and shelter. Unfortunately, we are unsure of the sustainability of these community programs if the shutdown continues. For now, we are working diligently to connect families to these programs and to provide information regarding additional food distribution sites.
Here are resources our STEP team has gathered. Additionally, here is a list compiled by the School District of Philadelphia.
